Portrait Emma 2

About 15 years ago I taught myself to crochet - squares, then scarves, bags and hats. I learnt stitches through experimentation, and over the years developed my skill. In this time, I always imagined, one day I would start an accessories brand.

At the beginning of this year I stumbled upon plant dyeing wool - another chance to experiment. My first dye was with Black Beans. I was amazed at the variety of colour you can achieve from one dye material. From there I kept trying out new dyes, and I haven't stopped since.

Adding this process is where the concept for Have & Hold started.

Each piece in the label is hand dyed and crocheted from my home in Surrey, UK - using undyed 100% extra fine merino wool, from a supplier who sourced from small farms in South America.

I always dye in small batches, and never make a hat in the same size from the same wool batch, meaning every hat is completely unique.

The design is simplistic timeless pieces for the whole family to cherish - have & hold.
